We get asked this question a lot in the Visitors Center, and I have to tell you, you're spoiled for choice in Corvallis and Philomath. We've got a lot of great breakfast places. Here's a few places I always recommend.
Wise Cracks is a Corvallis tradition, a fun little diner with great breakfasts like the 3rd Street Scramble (eggs scrambled with roasted garlic, spinach, mushroom, feta and pine nuts) and - a personal favorite - the Miss Swiss (eggs scrambled with asparagus, mushrooms and garlic, and topped with Swiss). You'll also find skillets, pancakes, French toast - all the good stuff - excellent coffee, and a pretty epic hot chocolate. Wise Cracks has a cute little children's corner where kids can play, too. Pro tip: Show up early! Wise Cracks is pretty busy in the morning, especially on the weekend. You can find this gem at 119 SW 3rd Street in Corvallis, open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends.
The Dizzy Hen is a local favorite. They do a French toast made with 'dried cherry bread-pudding' served with sage sausage and fried apples, a pork ragu with grits and fried egg, and they even have a vegan hash. Like Wise Cracks, the Dizzy Hen tends to get pretty busy, particularly on the weekends, so it's best to show up early. The Dizzy Hen is located at 1247 Main Street in Philomath, and it's open for breakfast Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Eats & Treats is a safe haven for gluten free folks. The McHenry family, owners and operators of Eats & Treats, are all gluten intolerant, and their restaurant is 100% completely gluten free - but you'd never know that judging by the delicious food. Eats & Treats is best known for their BBQ, but they do a wonderful brunch on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find them at 1644 Main Street in Philomath.
Bodhi Cafe & Bakery and their latest location, Bodhi Bistro, is a downtown favorite. Here you'll find up-scaled options like biscuits and gravy, made with local sausage, organic mushroom gravy, and homemade Bodhi buttermilk biscuits, as well as some healthier breakfast options like the vegan "The Nearly Normal," or an avocado toast on sourdough, or acai bowls, and - my favorite - their chicken curry toast, which has chicken breast salad, harissa spread, spinach, cucumber and pickled radish on Bodhi's whole grain bread. Yum!
Bodhi Bakery is located at 500 SW 2nd Street in Corvallis, and is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Bodhi Bistro faces Riverfront Park at 230 NW First Street in Corvallis, open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday brunch 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Caves Corvallis and Odd Bird Cafe & Bar both do a great weekend brunch, while Ants On A Log, Interzone and Sam's Station are other local favorites. Insider tip on the brunch spots - get there early, as they tend to be pretty busy.
Tommy's 4th Street Bar & Grill and the Peacock both do a tasty diner-style breakfast. Two other excellent stops include New Morning Bakery, offering pastries, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and more, or Wild Yeast Bakery, offering breads and pastries made with locally grown grains. For quick bites, try New York Bagels and Bistro or Futura Coffee Roasters.
We also have an Elmer's and a Shari's, too, both great stops for family-dining favorites.
