The Alsea Falls Recreation Site is located in Oregon's beautiful Coast Range, about 45 minutes south of Corvallis (map). The South Fork of the lovely Alsea River runs through the area, cascading down a 30-foot drop to form Alsea Falls. If you're looking for something a bit taller and ready for a hike, you can take the Green Peak Falls Trail through McBee Park, a private park owned by Hull-Oakes Lumber. There you'll find Green Peak Falls, which tumbles down a 45-foot drop in the Green Peak River, a tributary of Alsea River.
There's no shortage of fun and adventure to be found at Alsea Falls. Looking to get some hiking or biking done? Maybe you're after a swimming hole or want to do some fishing? Or maybe you just want a beautiful spot to bring the family for a bit of camping or a nice afternoon picnic. Whatever you're in the mood for, you can probably find it at Alsea Falls. There's a small day-use fee of $5.
Hike through old growth Douglas fir and western red cedar forests, younger Douglas fir and vine maples along miles and miles of hiking and biking trails. The Fall Creek trailhead has more than 12 miles of trails made just for mountain bikes (hikers are welcome there too). In the summer, you'll find cool relief from the heat at the Alsea River or in the shade of the surrounding forests. In the winter, you can bundle up and enjoy salmon and steelhead fishing.
There's also a variety of campsites, including single and group campsites. Amenities in the campground include drinking water and vault toilets, and several of the campsites can handle large RVs or trailers (up to 32 feet long). Camping fees range from $12 to $20.

From Corvallis, you can either take 99W to Alpine Road, or go by Bellfountain Road to Alpine. Head south on 99W about 16 miles and turn right onto Alpine Road. To take Bellfountain Road, head west on HW20 to a left on 53rd Street, to a right on SW Plymouth Drive, to a left on Bellfountain Road, and stay on Bellfountain until you come to Alpine Road.
Alpine Road will turn into BLM South Fork Road, and you'll stay on that until you come to Glenbrook Road. Take a left at Glenbrook to skip some of Glenbrook's twists and turns, and meet up again with Glenbrook after about a mile and a half. Continue on Glenbrook, which will turn back into BLM South Fork Road just to keep you on your toes, and keep on BLM South Fork until you come to the Alsea Falls Recreation Site.
