It's Gameday in Corvallis: the Beavers are playing and you're looking for something fun to add to your day. Here are a few suggestions!
1. Complete the Beaver Buster Breakfast Challenge at Tommy's Bar and Grill
Starting the day off right means having a complete breakfast, but you'll need to put on your game face for this one. The Beaver Buster Challenge at Tommy's Bar & Grill is seven pounds of brekky on a pizza pan. It consists of five buttermilk pancakes, two biscuits with gravy, two pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of link sausage, a side of ham steak, four slices of buttered toast and two omelets with the works, each with a half dozen eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, green peppers, red peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, and country gravy. If you can eat it all in an hour, you'll have your photo hung on the Wall of Fame along with a free meal, and win or lose, a t-shirt and a full stomach.
2. Visit a local wetland and try to spot our mascot in its natural habitat
Corvallis has some pretty incredible hiking opportunities, and taking a peaceful stroll through nature is a good way to ease into the pageantry of gameday. Just north of town is Jackson-Frazier Wetlands, which is a 3,400-foot-long boardwalk path that is open throughout the year. Just south of town is Finley National Wildlife Refuge with 12 miles of trails that meander through 5,325 acres. The trails close on November 1st to provide sanctuary to wintering waterfowl.
3. Attend the Corvallis Farmers Market
The Corvallis Farmers Market is the perfect place to take a stroll after breakfast and pick up some tailgating supplies for the game from local farmers. Take in the ambiance of booths and buskers while shopping for artisan gifts, a great way to support the local economy and pick up a few souvenirs while you're in town.
4. Gameday Tailgating
No gameday would be complete without a tailgate party. If you can't find parking in the stadium lot, head west on Western Blvd. Local churches and residents usually sell their spaces, and you'll be within a short distance of the Western Market if you need any supplies. Take a walk up 30th street to the stadium, where loyal alumni have held tailgate parties for generations.
5. If you can't cheer in the stadium, cheer downtown.
Corvallis is home to several breweries that have made their mark on the region. Angry Beaver is themed for the home team, Block 15 offers up local brews in the heart of downtown and Sky High is a great place to watch the sunset over Marys Peak from the rooftop. Squirrel's and the Peacock are popular local watering holes where you can have a drink and play a round of pool.
