The Siuslaw National Forest has partnered with Benton County Natural Areas and Parks to make improvements to the former guard station located along the Alsea River and operate it as a rental cabin. The cabin, located on the western edge of Alsea, was a former ranger’s residence and guard station office. The Alsea Guard Station has historic significance as being the only Depression era guard station remaining in the Siuslaw District.
The cabin has been updated with central heating, hot and cold running water, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and furniture to sleep seven individuals within the two bedroom, one and a half bath cabin. The guard station’s location across from a county park with a boat ramp to the Alsea River makes the site particularly appealing if you're looking to fish for salmon or enjoy a quiet retreat on the river.
Visitors can use the online reservation system to view available dates, and rental discounts are available for seniors and veterans. For more information call the Benton County Natural Areas & Parks office at 541-766-6871.
