3 Great Hikes in Corvallis, Oregon

Corvallis is a great place for hiking - we have miles of multi-use trails surrounding Corvallis, Oregon, and leading throughout Benton County. You can follow them through sunlight forests to meadows, up mountains, through parks and natural areas, to and in national wildlife refuges, and all around the area.

There are so many lovely (and challenging!) trails to pick from it can be hard to know where to start, so here's three suggestions to get you going. Clicking on the titles or photos below will take you to TheRightTrail.org, where you can find more information on each of these trails (or just find more trails to explore).

1. Upper Dan's Trail

Located in McDonald Forest and accessible from Chip Ross Park, the Upper Dan's Trail is the upper section of Dan's Trail, the longest trail in the forest. Named after Dan Petrequin, Upper Dan's Trail passes through a mature forest that many types of wildlife call home. The trail is 1.6 miles long with a 250 feet gain in elevation, and it's a multi-use trail open year-round. It's dog friendly (on leash or under voice control), horse friendly, good for mountain biking and watching wildlife, and home to some gorgeous views.

2. Alsea Falls Trail

The Alsea Falls Recreational Area offers beautiful waterfalls, miles of trails through second-growth forest, a picnic area and campground. These trails are great for hiking and mountain biking, are dog friendly (voice control and on leash), and they have restrooms. You can watch wildlife, get in a good run, or bring the family for a picnic day. You can go fishing and swimming here, too. The hike back to Alsea Falls is pretty short, but once you're there, you can choose any of several trails to continue on.

3. Mulkey Ridge Trail

The Mulkey Ridge Trail is a connector trail that was completed in 2014 and links the Bald Hill Farm to the Fitton Green Natural Area. The trail gently descends from Bald Hill Farm to Fitton Green through a beautiful sun-dappled forest, and the route is great for bird watching, horse and dog friendly (on leash or under voice control), and a beautiful spot for long summer walks under the cool trees, mountain biking, and hiking. It's open year-round, but only open to horses and bikes April 15 through October 31 due to sticky clay and mud during the winter months.
