Corvallis Arts and Culture

Corvallis, Oregon offers a rich arts and culture experience, vibrant with the work of our local artists and performers.

From ballet to stage productions, live concerts to art shows, and several festivals dedicated to celebrating the arts, Corvallis has a rich artistic experience to offer.

The Arts Center and the Benton County Historical Museum, along with several other local arts galleries, host art shows featuring local and regional artists. The Majestic Theatre offer regular performances varying from live productions to concerts and more. The beautiful and historic Whiteside Theatre hosts concerts and other events. Oregon State University brings an amazing array of arts, performances and concerts to Corvallis, too.

The Giustina Gallery will display the beautiful work of Vistas & Vineyards during October 2014.

Vistas and Vineyards is a group of artists that meets weekly between mid-May through mid-October to express themselves individually as artists, to enjoy painting “en plein aire” at local sites and to share their work with each other and the mid-valley community. The group was formed in 1989 and always welcomes new members.

Cool Tools! @ Benton County Museum

Cool Tools! is now open at Benton County Museum in Philomath. Tools of regional and national significance from the workshop, laboratory, farm, field and home are featured. Informational labels are available on touch screen computers or your own smartphone.

Visitors see the surveying tools used by Oregon pioneer Joseph C. Avery (1817-1876) to lay out the town of Marysville (later Corvallis) in 1851, as well as a theodolite used to survey Lake Superior in 1869. This exhibition contains a chain saw that might be the largest you’ve ever seen! The HP35 calculator and the Hewlett-Packard ThinkJet printer had profound effects on American life and we have the objects and share their stories. Tools for agriculture, engineering, robotics, textiles, distilling, lumbering, surveying, and woodworking are all represented. Cool Tools! will be open through 2014 on the ground floor of the museum. Rotating art exhibitions are featured in the second floor Moreland Auditorium.

Ian Black is still attending Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, slated to graduate next spring 2015, but he already has his future mapped out. He plans to get a degree in Industrial Design and become an athletic footwear designer — possibly for a large footwear design company, which can’t be identified at this time.

Experience an actual haunted building and meet the Whiteside Theater’s ghosts through true and troubled tales!

This tour involves a walk through history and current unexplained phenomenon. This is not a haunted house – no actors will reach out and grab you. Duration is approximately 1 hour. This tour contains 52 stairs (up and down) on the walking route. Tour group is limited to a small group and is $12 when purchased at the door.

Cameras and any other recording devices are not allowed. This tour is not designed for children due to mature themes. Recommended for those 16 and older.

The Ghost Hunt add-on is new this year and will involve the use of a portable EMF reader, recording and playback, and other explorations of the paranormal. The Ghost Hunt will start at approximately 7pm, after the tour.

On this free, self-guided tour, the artists are available to discuss their processes and show work that may never have been on public display. Guest artists are also hosted at each studio. On display, and for sale, will be a full spectrum of artistic mediums: collage, painting, fiber art, jewelry, photography and ceramics and many more.

Write your novel during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) on Saturdays in October and November starting October 18th and ending November 29th at 2:00 pm in the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library’s Main Meeting Room. The Library will be celebrating NaNoWriMo with a Plot Planning Party (Oct. 18th), Kick Off Party (Oct. 25th), and weekly writing sessions (every Saturday in November). A book of excerpts from writing done during NaNoWriMo will be published by the Library if sufficient submissions are received.

Corvallis Repertory Singers: Bach and Bluegrass @ First United Methodist Church

The Corvallis Repertory Singers will perform “Jesu, der du meine Seele,” by J.S. Bach, one of the most expressive cantatas ever written by Bach. This piece is for chamber orchestra, four-part chorus, and soloists. They’ll also perform “Come Away to the Skies: A High Lonesome Bluegrass Mass” by T. Sharp and W. Ramsay, a unique mass that combines the song tradition of the South with the conventional sections of the Christian high mass, creating a poignant celebration of uniquely beautiful music. This piece is for five-piece bluegrass ensemble, piano, and four-part chorus.

The Giustina Gallery will display the beautiful work of the Soap Creek Artisans during November 2014.

The Soap Creek Artisans are a group of talented artists based in Oregon’s beautiful Soap Creek Valley. Known for its unique country setting and historical past—it is home to the Soap Creek one-room schoolhouse—Soap Creek Valley is located 10 miles northwest of Corvallis, Oregon.

The many artists who make their home here represent a diverse set of artistic talents in pottery, fabric, glass, artistry, photography, and ceramics.

First Monday Whiteside Theatre Tour @ Whiteside Theatre

Regularly scheduled Historic Tours of the Whiteside Theatre are conducted by The Whiteside Theatre Foundation. Tours take place on the first Monday of each month from 12pm – 1pm.

All tours of the Whiteside Theatre start promptly on time. Once a tour enters the building the doors are closed and joining the tour is not permitted. Videography of any kind is not permitted.

To reserve your space simply send an email with your name, any special arrangements, and the number in your group. Admission will be paid at the door on the day of the tour. If space is available, tickets for the tour may be purchased at the door on the day of the tour.
