Meet the Author and Illustrator: Gregg Kleiner and Laurel Thompson @ Grass Roots Books & Music | Corvallis | Oregon | United States

Bill McKibben says about Please Don’t Paint Our Planet Pink, “I’ve always wondered what would happen if CO2 were visible. Now I know!”

In this engaging, funny, and highly timely book, a young boy whose parents named him Wilbur “in honor of that pig in ‘Charlotte’s Web'” discovers the power of the human imagination and how he can tap that power to see a shade of pink he has never imagined – a pink so astonishing it just might save the Planet. With help from his “geeky dorkasaurus” Dad and a pair of bright green goggles, young Will learns all about carbon and caring, carpooling and climate change, and how learning to see “this particular pink” will help all of us keep our Planet cool.

One of five siblings, Gregg Kleiner didn’t wear a lot of pink as a boy, but the color has grown on him, and he hopes people might see the particular shade of pink featured in this book – his first for children (and their adults!). His novel for adults, Where River Turns to Sky, was optioned for a feature film by Fox Searchlight.

As a visual thinker, it’s no wonder that Laurel Thompson became an artist. She grew up in Oregon, exploring her fascination with art, dance, and nature. This is Laurel’s first fully illustrated book, and she feels honored to be helping bring such an important story to life.

Peter Mulvey and Beth Wood at the Majestic @ Majestic Theatre
Oct 25 @ 7:30 pm
Peter Mulvey and Beth Wood at the Majestic @ Majestic Theatre | Corvallis | Oregon | United States

Peter Mulvey is a walking secret handshake. He has been the street-singing kid in Dublin, the man fronting the storming electric band, the conspiratorial spoken-word craftsman, the Tin Pan Alley delver, an instigator in the occasional Redbird collective, and all through it he has remained the traveler out on the road, bringing his music to audiences from Fairbanks to Bilbao, Santa Monica to Montreal, in clubs, theaters, coffeeshops, the Kennedy Center, and old barns.

Beth Wood is a modern-day troubadour and believer in the power of song. Her exceptional musicianship, crafty songwriting, and commanding stage presence have been winning over American audiences for sixteen years. Beth’s music is soulful, organic, intelligent, barefoot, high-energy communication of joy.
